|
Daily life at Staverton follows the rhythmn of normal family life, with residents involved in most aspects of running the home such as cooking, cleaning, laundry etc. However the routine, especially in the evenings, at weekends and during holiday periods, is very flexible so as to allow each resident ample time to pursue their choice of leisure activities. | |
|
A wide variety of social and recreational activities are available to all residents. As the homes are so well situated, all local facilities are within easy walking distance. For example the swimming pool, sports centre, bowling alley, local shops and restaurants, churches and several pubs. Leisure activities are also on offer within the homes such as art and craft groups, indoor games, cookery sessions and computer games. People also have the opportunity to relax with a video, music, hobbies, or to enjoy the company of friends. Residents invite home friends whenever they wish, and there is also the facility for family and friends to stay overnight. |
Some residents are members of
the Wokingham Resource and Opportunity Centre, which
offers a wide and varied range of activities from the
traditional craftwork and cookery & homecare skills to drama and
music, outdoor and farming activities, and environmental
work. Work experience is available in a variety of
settings, and full use is made of local college
facilities, arts and sports centres. There is close and
effective liason with WROC and regular service appraisal. |
|
Theatre, festivals and cinema visits are very
popular, as is the local arts centre. Church membership
is important to several residents and this gives access
to other social activities and new friendship networks.
