consultationConsultation with Residents

Everyone supported by ATHT is routinely consulted about all aspects of daily life. An informal exchange of views naturally occurs on a daily basis. Each person living in the Trusts homes is aware that staff are always available to discuss any concerns. Any matter which worries a resident is recorded, as is its resolution.

The ATHT care plan provides oppportunity for further consultation, and enables each person to voice opinions over every area of life. The care plans comprise a fully comprehensive planning book for each resident. All areas of life and work are covered, and each person decides exactly what they want to include. In each planning section a persons likes, dislikes, and aspirations ar clearly indicated. The care plans are written in accessible language, symbols and pictures.

As a formal means of consultation, a resident representative attends meetings of the home's committee, membership of which comprises the homes manager, trustees, and family and community representatives.

All residents enjoy regular time on an individual basis with their keyworker. The keyworker time is spent doing any activity the resident chooses, eg. a day out shopping, a cinema trip, or perhaps just a leisurely stroll to the pub for a meal and a drink. This keyworker time allows a full discussion of any issues to take place - work, leisure, life at home and so on. All future plans are discussed with each person, who decides which activities to pursue, and which to decline.
